Advertising began as an extension of signage. It remains the flip side of media, even though advertising agencies have sometimes artificially separated the practice of advertising from the reality that it is media driven. It can be said that media is how society and culture listens and speaks, and in these times, with today's explosion of media sources, traditional media is competing with thousands of other voices for the attention and time of the reading, viewing and surfing public. These are exciting times, when great ads, like great art, are heard above the chaos.
